"To Love a Ghost' comes to Lagos

For the first time in Lagos, a soul stirring tale, TO LOVE A GHOST; will be presented on stage by DreamPlayHouse Theatre. “To Love A Ghost” is a play written by Ita Hozaife and directed by Kenneth Uphopho. It tells the intriguing yet gripping story of the travails of child abuse, a disturbing trend that continues to be rampant in our society and even the world ovThe story revolves around a young girl, Lois, who learns about life and love a little too fast and a little too hard. She is abused and maltreated by people who should give her protection and guidance in her journey through life.
Drawing from the theatrical arsenal of suspense, humour and unnerving reality, Ita Hozaife, the playwright brings into dramatic reality, the vicissitudes of the life of the protagonist. The playwright dramatises the many contradictions of life whilst the play's thematic thrust brings to the mind Mahatma Ghandi's assertion decades ago that, "The world has enough to satisfy man's need, but not enough for his greed."
And so on Saturday, the 4th of September 2010 at Terra Kulture, Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos; TO LOVE A GHOST will be presented in two performances, the Matinee Performance which kicks off at 3pm and the Red Carpet Performance which begins at 5pm.

Fire Guts PDP National Secretariat

There was a fire outbreak this morning at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Abuja razing the Conference Hall where the National Working Committee (NWC) meets every week and destroying drapes, furniture and a stockpile of documents, which were kept in the hall. However the timely intervention of men of the Civil Defence Corps and fire fighters averted what could have been a major fire disaster. THEWILL gathered that the fire started as a result of a spark from an Air conditioner causing a billow of smoke which was first noticed as early as 8.30 am in the PDP conference Room.

A Passerby who noticed the smoke reportedly raised an alarm which fortunately attracted the attention of men of Civil Defence whose head office is located a few metres away from the PDP secretariat. The Civil Defence officials in conjunction with other fire fighters who were precept at the time of fire outbreak and fire fighters were able to contain the inferno before it could extend to adjoining offices.

When our correspondent visited the secretariat, it was discovered that the entire hall had been razed including the drapes, furniture and a stock of old documents belonging to the party usually kept there in. The fire incident occurred just when most national officials of the party were in Abia State to welcome the state governor, Chief Orji back into the party.

Meanwhile, both the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo and the Commander General of Civil Defence Corps, Ade Abolurin had paid visits to the PDP national headquarters for on the spot assessments. But in a swift reaction, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Professor Ahmed Rufai Alkali has said the incident was just an accident and not sabotage. In a press statement, the publicity secretary noted that, "There was an outbreak of fire at the National Secretariat of our Party today, the fire started at the NWC meeting room on the second floor.

"From Preliminary reports, we learnt that the fire started from an Air conditioner in the hall. The quick intervention of the Fire Service personnel, Civil Defence Corps and staff of the Secretariat quickly contained the fire and stopped it from spreading. "We wish to commend all those who moved in QUICKLY and stopped what would have otherwise become a major disaster," the statement said.

Former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Munachi Abii has not stopped to amaze a lot of people after her reign. BETWEEN LEXY MOJO EYES, RONKE ADEMILUYI AND BOLA AWOSIKA

The buzz is on about Nigeria fashion week which is set hold in London. Interestingly, even though the name Nigeria Fashion Week is synonymous with Lexy Mojo Eyes of Legendary Gold, being the official organizer of the Nigerian Fashion Show and Nigerian Fashion Week, this London edition is actually put together by 3 different ladies who are not members of the Legendary Gold. The event is put together by Bola Awosika(Larviva Boss), Ronke Ademiluyi (Rukkies Boss) and Kamari Ademiluyi. The fashion show which will be staged in London is part of the activities to mark 50th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria. The event is aimed at showcasing the best of Nigerian designers at home and abroad giving them recognition for what they have been doing. It is a reminiscent of the Nottinghill carnival in the United Kingdom. But the question on people’s mind ever since these 3 illustrious women made their intention known to organize this event is if there wont be clash of interest between them and the Legendary Gold boss, Lexy, since he has gotten the right to this event.

AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL’S PLUS-SIZE WINNER DISPLAYS HER CURVES FOR CAMPAIGN AGAINST EATING DISORDERS

Whitney Thompson has stripped bare in a bid to get women to love their bodies - no matter what their size is. The full figured model, who won season ten of the hit U.S. show, America's Next Top Model, poses naked with a fellow plus size model, Chenese Lewis for an ad for Love Your Body Day. Thompson, who is an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association, will also act as a celebrity host for the event which will be held on October 23.
Thompson has also stepped in to defend America's Next Top Model's host Tyra Banks who was embroiled in controversy recently after she was seen putting her hands around the waist of an extremely thin contestant on the latest series of the show.
'Tyra supports women of all sizes as long as they are healthy,' she says. 'I do not fault her reaction to seeing such a tiny waist. 'Tyra remains a leading figure in the fight for body equality in the fashion industry.'
Banks, who in her prime was a leading supermodel and Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover girl has famously struggled herself with weight. Four years ago the former Victoria's Secret beauty gained 30 lbs and faced stinging headlines such as 'America's Next Top Waddle' after photographs of her looking bigger in a bathing suit appeared in magazines. She swiftly came out in defense of curvy women at the time, saying on The Tyra Banks Show: 'To all of you who have something nasty to say to me or to women built like me. I have one thing to say to you: Kiss my fat a**!"
Five plus size models competed on Next Top Model before Thompson, but she was the first to win the coveted prize of a contract with Elite Model Management, a $100,000 contract with Cover Girl cosmetics and a six page spread and cover in Seventeen Magazine.Banks is so committed to introducing body diversity into the notoriously thin dominated model industry that she is launching a new model competition focusing solely on plus size teens.
Any girls between the ages of 13 and 19 are invited to enter as long as they have a dress size between 12 and 20 and are between 5'9" and 6'1" in height.
'I've always felt it was my mission to expand the narrow perceptions of beauty,' Banks said to Us magazine.
The top model went on to say that she has always tried to 'challenge industry and universal standards' by 'celebrating non-traditional beauty' and stressing the importance of inner beauty.
Banks also said she was disappointed that the term 'plus-sized' had such a negative connotation, and that really, it just referred to the average American woman.
'That woman is healthy, fit and beautiful,' says Banks.
'Adolescence is such an impressionable time in a young woman's life, and I hope this contest helps teen girls discover their own beauty from the inside out.'

NEW SEX STIMULANTS SUGAR DADDIES GO FOR

Older men who date or marry younger lovers or wives now take sexual enhancement pills among other things to keep their sexual life active. Even though, there are quite a number of pills in the market, the most popular one is Viagra. It is the leading sexual enhancer and erectile dysfunction treatment that works up to 4 hours. But most of these men are fast dumping Viagra for this new sex enhancer called Penile Extension. This is because, Viagra and other sexual enhancement pills are no longer working for these men due to age factor and because they have been associated with a couple of side effects.
Most of these pills actually have a spill over effect. And his wife wants sex more often than he does. And he is always not in the mood, because of that; he doesn’t always get an erection when she wants to have sex. DIRTY THINGS NIGERIA MODELS DO TO LIVE BIG IN SOUTH AFRICA

It is no longer news that South Africa now provides ample opportunity of greener pa
stures for most Nigerian models as more of these girls are relocating to the ex-apartied nation. The simple reason for this recent relocation by the models is basically because there are better opportunities for them over there. Unlike in Nigeria, the modeling industry in South Africa is well structured and there are several modeling agencies over there who are willingly to sign them up as long as they possess all the qualities they are looking for. Also, Nigerian models are many in South Africa now as they have become hot cakes to most designers are in love with their peculiar color and body curves
But contrary to general belief that these girls are hitting it big due to the many fashion shows in which they feature and get handsomely paid, City People recently gathered that they are actually into other things to keep up with their high standard of living. Some of them are actually Escorts (Call Girls). It was gathered that most of them are involved in prostitution, at a very sophisticated level. This has been the major means of survival for some of these girls who parade themselves as models.
The interesting thing is that quite a number of these Fashion Modeling Agencies double as Model Escorts agencies pimping the girls for mostly rich interested men. The girls don’t see it as a big deal and because of the raw African beauty they have, they are fast becoming the favorite of South Africans and Europeans too. They have the dream figure these men and with their charm, spirit and elegance; they can easily melt the ice and bind any fastidious gentleman.
For many of these models, escorting is a part time job. Some of them are even available to model for these men and would be glad to give them very sexy photo shoots. Interestingly, the girls are well travelled because of the daytime job and escort work. They have visited and modelled in various places like Paris, Milan;America, London, Dubai and others. Some of the models who are not into the Escort business specialize in dating white guys who in return , take care of their needs. The( The Girls) shield these men away from their friends because most time, they snatch one another’s boyfriends too.Though a good number of South African Call Girls are into drugs, this is not common among the nigerian girls.
The few ones among the girls who are not involved in the escort business, however, resolve to menial jobs to keep body and soul together. They walk in fast food restaurants and cafes spread around Johannesburg, Durban and other cities in the country.
Contrary to general opinion that they are cleaning out big, these girls don’t even earn much as a runway models. For every job they do, by the time the agencies deduct their commission, they are left with peanuts. The only ones really cleaning out are those signed for commercials and billboards, as the payment for these are usually huge .Even after the commission deductions, their take home pay is still very good. But it is only few of them who are in that category as most of them still struggle with the peanut they earn from the fashion shows which are more regular. However, irrespective of how they earn their living, most of them now live big, in their own apartment and cruise around in their own cars.

Tiger Woods responds to Elin's Interview

Tiger Woods released a statement to the magazine which included it as an addendum to its exclusive interview with Elin.
The statement reads,“This is a very painful, personal and private time for our family. Throughout this entire time, Elin has shown unwavering concern and support for our children. She is a wonderful mother. I know that the two of us will do everything we can to help our children adjust to this new family situation.
“We both cherish the time we can spend with Sam and Charlie. Whether it’s taking Sam to school or hitting balls with Charlie on the range, nothing gives me more enjoyment than these simple pleasures. We have two special kids, and I’m going to enjoy every minute with them.
“Personally, I am learning to balance family and golf. My children come first and always will, but I also appreciate golf more than ever. I understand how important the fans and the game are to me. I know how lucky I am to do what I do for a living, and I am deeply grateful for everyone who has supported me.”

Canadian, Indian, Irish firms bid to run power grid

Electricity companies from Canada, India and Ireland are the final bidders to take over the management of Nigeria's national grid, a contract likely to be awarded by the end of the year, a top official said on Friday.
Manitoba Hydro, owned by the Canadian province of Manitoba, India's Power Grid Corp (PGRD.BO) and Ireland's Electricity Supply Board (ESB) are the final bidders to manage the transmission grid in Africa's most populous nation.
"I can tell you that we expect to finalise everything and hand over by the end of the year," Bart Nnaji, head of a presidential taskforce charged with reforming Nigeria's power sector, told Reuters.
President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday unveiled a blueprint for ending chronic power shortages in sub-Saharan Africa's second biggest economy, a plan which financiers say could unlock billions of dollars of private sector investment.
Under the strategy, Nigeria will privatise electricity generation and distribution. It will continue to own the national grid but its management will be privatised.
Despite producing more than 2 million barrels per day of crude oil, Nigeria relies on diesel generators to power everything from phone chargers to luxury hotels because of constant power outages which are a major brake on growth.
Jonathan's plan, unveiled less than five months before elections are due to be held, is the most comprehensive yet designed to solve the nation's power problems.
Previous privatisation efforts, most recently of former state telecoms monopoly NITEL, have been a failure and investors say the roadmap for reform will need to be backed up by cast-iron guarantees on the regulatory framework.

23 year old abandons baby in hospital

A 23-year-old woman, who gave her identity as Pelumi Ogunbadejo, has abandoned her newly delivered baby at a private hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State and disappeared into thin air. She is said to have claimed to be resident of Akute, in Ifo Local Government area of the state while on admission.
A hospital source said the woman was brought into Ademuyiwa Maternity Home, Sokori area in Abeokuta by a samaritan, who saw her in labour besides his building. She was subsequently admitted on August 22, 2010.
She had a successful delivery of a baby boy, the same day, and had proper medical attention free of charge; having assured the hospital authorities that her husband, resident in Lagos, had been contacted and is coming to offset the bill before the discharge.
Her medical report reads: ‘unbooked patient came to the hospital with complaint of labour pain. Virgina examination was done, she was fully dilated. Normal delivery at 10.30am of a male life baby on August 22, 2010 with the aid of strong contraction.’
Sneaked out
However, the delivery took a dramatic turn on the third day, which was Tuesday, when at about 5.30am, the mother sneaked out from the hospital on the pretext of going to fetch water from a public tap beside the hospital. To the amazement of the hospital authority and other in-patients, that was the last they saw about the lady.
The Matron of the hospital, Esther Ademuyiwa expressed shock over the development. As at the time of NEXT’s visit to the hospital, the authority was preparing to file a report at the police station.
“A man who identified himself as Oshungboye brought the pregnant lady into the hospital, claiming that he saw her in labour pain beside his house, so we have no choice than to attend to her immediately and admitted her,” Mrs Ademuyiwa said.
“The lady told us that she resides in Akute and just suddenly had labour pain, that her husband would later come. So, with all these claims, we attended to her.” The matron said the baby is in perfect condition of health.

I can't date someone who does not have money" blunt actress Uche Iwuji confesses

"I broke up with him because he could not take care of my needs and I cannot see myself suffering or spending for a guy. If you want to marry me, I think you should be able to take good care of me. You don't need to give me everything, you don't need to give me the world. I Just want little, like take this money, go and do your hair. Take this money, travel, take a flight and all that. You need to show some concern, show me that you are a man. Let me see and feel the man in the house. You don't have to tell me you are a man, you have to show it. So why do I have to keep suffering over a man who cannot take care of my needs? My ex is loving but he's not somebody that can take care of my needs and that's why I broke up with him."Actress Uche Iwuji tells Encomium mag when asked why she broke up with her ex
Did she say - "take this money, go and do your hair"? I'm hoping she was misquoted.
That's seriously not something young girls who look up actresses as role models should read

If you are an intending Music Minister, Musician or you got Big Dreams. Written by Obiwon

I felt a burden to share this with you and encourage you, first to the musician and perhaps it can inspire your other dreams too.

- Never leave your ready helping hand for an unknown one, unless the Holy Spirit specifically instructs you to do so. Patiently wait on that person that's paying attention to you and helping out in your dream right now. If you assess the situation in all honesty and believe this person has not contributed anything to your development or has brought retrogress, ask God to direct you to whom it is where you help lies.
Start from where you are...your church, your church band, minister to your congregration. Do a short form album called an EP or a Maxi Single (usually with 5 or 7 tracks) and minister the songs to your congregation, spread them around your local radio and places that will play you kind of music publicly, do interviews at the radio stations etc, get something going around your environs, slowly work your way into the church or concert circuit and begin to perform. When you start making moves other things will open up. Don't think you must always start off with a video, big album launch etc. Step by step.

- You've got to be tough, diligent, persistent and ready to sacrifice. Bear in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day, neither in a year or two or five, perhaps even ten etc...scared already? You can't thrive long without passion.

- Very important. Find a manager. Someone who believes in your talent enough to invest their time and sometimes their resources on you, knows his/her way round the music/media circuit in your locale and most importantly is trustworthy. Pray for God to lead you and show you this person.

- Make music from your heart. Strive for nothing but the best, knowing there are many okay/average songs out there. Good enough should not be enough for you. Seek to be excellent and stand out. As a true minister of God, your first focus should be expanding the kingdom of God, and not money or fame, make it all about Him and His glory will rub off on you.

- Most important of all discover who you are. Music might be one of the talents God has given you, but is it the greatest of them all? You can only thrive easiest at your greatest gift, if not you will struggle very much to make an impact. Find out who you truly are by true reconciliation to God through Christ, daily worship and living for Him. He will then show you your true destiny, and then you can walk in it and work at it with a divinely inspired conviction that will pull down all strongholds and challenges in your path.

...and oh yeah I almost forgot, You may need to work and feed from another job while pursuing your dream, before your dream can break and start feeding you, but then don't forget who you are. This relates back to the sacrifice, toughness, persistence and passion part.

Bless.
